Moonlighter Keyboard Controls and PC Setup

Moonlighter keyboard controls use WASD to move, J for main attack and confirm, K for the secondary action, Q to roll, E for potions, I for inventory and M for the map. The game supports rebinding and mouse buttons, and it autosaves instead of offering a manual save slot.

Mouse and controller

Use mouse buttons or a gamepad

Mouse layout

Bind attacks to the mouse

The developer's suggested layout uses left click for main attack and interact, right click for secondary and back, middle click for inventory and F for the pendant.

Controller

Follow the active glyphs

Moonlighter has full controller support. Use the buttons shown on screen because Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and Steam Input layouts use different labels.

Main menu

Use WASD and J

If the PC menu appears stuck, move the selection with WASD and press J to confirm. Enter, Space and the arrow keys do not confirm that menu.

Autosave and backup

How Moonlighter saves on PC

The game autosaves at several points and has no separate manual-save command. Sleep in Will's bed when you want to trigger a save, wait for the saving indicator to disappear, then exit.

Quick answers

Moonlighter keyboard control questions

What are the default Moonlighter keyboard controls?

The original PC layout uses WASD to move, J for main attack and confirm, K for the secondary action, Q to roll, E for a potion, I for inventory, M for the map, Z and C for weapon or page switching, and Esc to pause. Your copy may show changed bindings.

Why does Enter not work in the Moonlighter menu?

Use WASD to highlight an option and J to confirm it. The developer's PC menu guidance notes that the arrow keys, Enter and Space do not confirm the main-menu selection.

Can Moonlighter keyboard controls be remapped?

Yes. The Binding of Will update added separate bindings for character actions and interface actions across keyboard, mouse buttons and controllers. Open Options and restore the default layout if a custom binding becomes confusing.

How does Moonlighter save?

Moonlighter autosaves at several points. Going to bed is the developer-recommended way to force a save; wait for the saving indicator to finish before quitting.

Where is the Moonlighter save file on PC?

Steam stores it under userdata/<Steam ID>/606150/remote. DRM-free Windows copies commonly use AppData/LocalLow/11BitStudios/Moonlighter, while Microsoft Store saves use the package's SystemAppData/wgs folder.

Why can controller prompts differ on PC?

The connected controller and Steam Input can change the glyphs the game displays. Follow the on-screen prompts for the active device, or disable an unwanted translation layer before rebinding.

Use WASD and J if the PC menu feels unresponsive, rebind combat actions to the input you prefer, and sleep before quitting when you want to trigger an autosave.
